Sleep, how I miss you.
All parents miss sleep, however some people are luckier than others and have a kid who will sleep like a rock through the night no matter where they are. Whether it’s the kids disposition or effective sleep training, who can say. All I know is that I DO NOT have that sort of kid.
I would generally consider my son an okay sleeper. Not good but it could be worse, but that’s when we are at home.
When we travel or stay any place that isn’t home he gets up at least once a night. Normally he cries, asks for me, or Glamma. Sometimes he asks to go home or watch One of a handful of shows on TV. He almost always wants water and needs one of us to cuddle him back to sleep and frankly it’s exhausting.
Knowing that he is going to wake up at least one a night my husband and I trade off sleeping with him. While it helps nether of us ever really gets a good nights sleep and I’m sure neither does our son.
So what do you do when you have a kid who doesn’t sleep well while in vacation??
We could just NOT go places for a few years until he’s older and sleeps more consistently but then we would be missing out all the FUN stuff. Like camping with family, exploring new places and trying new things.
Instead we’ve decided to take extra naps during the day and try new things like bringing his nightlight and pillow from his room to see if it makes him more comfortable.
